Mindfulness and the Journey from Safety to Safeness
Human beings need more than safety. We need safeness.
Although many of us are physically safer than previous generations, anxiety, loneliness and emotional exhaustion continue to rise. Why?
Emerging research from Compassion Focused Therapy, attachment theory and neuroscience suggests an important answer. Human beings flourish not simply because they are protected from danger, but because they experience safeness—a deep sense of belonging, connection and emotional security.
Join John Julian for a gentle and practical day exploring how mindfulness helps cultivate this often-overlooked foundation of wellbeing.
Through guided meditation, mindful walking, reflection and discussion, we'll explore how safeness develops, why it matters for emotional health, and simple ways of nurturing it in ourselves, our relationships and our communities.
This isn't about escaping life. It's about learning to meet life with greater steadiness, warmth and compassion.
During the day we will explore:
Guided mindfulness meditation
Walking meditation in nature
The difference between safety and safeness
Practical ways of cultivating safeness in everyday life
Reflection and discussion in a supportive group
No previous meditation experience is necessary. Everyone is welcome.
